Theresa May has responded to Danny Dyer calling David Cameron a “twat” on live TV.

The actor was a guest on Good Evening Britain on Thursday (June 28) when he expressed his feelings about the former Prime Minister and his role in Brexit.

“Who knows about Brexit?” Dyer said. “No one’s got a fucking clue what Brexit is. You watch Question Time, it’s comedy.” Asked by presenter Susanna Reid if fellow guest Jeremy Corbyn’s explanation of the situation had clarified things for him, he replied: “No, I ain’t got a clue. No one knows what it is – it’s like this mad riddle and no one knows what it is, right?”

He continued: “So what’s happened to that twat David Cameron who called it on? Let’s be fair, how come he can scuttle off. He called all this on, where is he? In Europe, in Nice, with his trotters up. Where is the geezer? I think he should be held to account for it. Twat.”

A spokesperson for May has now given the current PM’s response, saying she hadn’t seen the footage, but “much like columnists and others, people who appear on broadcast and newspapers are perfectly entitled to their opinion.”

Lena Dunham, meanwhile, has shown her support for Dyer following the on-screen rant. “My obsession with Danny Dyer is real and I think about him on average 4 times a week,” she wrote on Twitter. “Let’s let him loose on America.”
