Watch IDLES’ new video for ‘GREAT’

Taken from the band’s forthcoming new album

IDLES have released a new video for their latest track ‘GREAT’. It’s the fourth track to be taken from the Bristol punks’ forthcoming new album ‘Joy As An Act of Resistance’ – out August 31.

Sharing the new visual on their Twitter, the band wrote: “No shit, we could well be in for the biggest fucking of my lifetime but as a democracy; it’s all our fault, mine too. Long live the open-minded!”

You can watch the video for ‘GREAT’ below.

Speaking of the intention behind the video, director Theo Watkins said: “We wanted to play with the imagery of British nostalgia – make it look like a seaside postcard, smell like a fry-up and taste like your fourth pint of mild on a balmy afternoon.

“The performance section, meanwhile, was based on our interpretation of a classic, lovably naff Butlin’s show. All reflections of a nation that feels, for better or for worse, obsessed with its own past.”

Speaking of the track itself, frontman Joe Talbot said: “Let us go forward with open minds and open hearts into that fuck off fire we’ve started. No blame, no hate. Just love and a blue passport.”

Talbot also recently appeared on ITV’s News at Ten to discuss the importance of men being able to talk about their feelings and vulnerabilities.

“Loneliness is a very strange thing when you’re in such an overly populated place. Surrounded by beautiful people and you still feel lonely,” he said. “The highest rate of death under 45 in men is suicide and in a supposedly developed country, you’ve got to think there’s a severe dislocation within that society.”

You can watch the segment below.

In celebration of the new album, the band will also be hosting an art exhibition at HM Electrics Gallery in London.

Taking place on August 30 and 31, you’ll be able to view the works between 12pm and 8pm. The gallery will contain 18 pieces of work across several mediums, with contributions from the band’s friends, including The Maccabees Orlando Weeks.

While it’ll be free entry, the artwork on display will available to buy, with all proceeds going to the Samaritans charity. You can watch a trailer for the exhibition below.

The five-piece will also be heading out on an in-store tour in celebration of the album. See the full in-store dates below, plus their world tour schedule. Grab tickets to their world tour here.
