Matty Healy shares “pop fact” that ties Spring King to The 1975 side project, Drive Like I Do

Matty Healy took to Twitter today to share a “pop fact” about The 1975 side project Drive Like I Do and Spring King‘s Tarek Musa.

While The 1975 used to be called Drive Like I Do, Healy has made it clear in the past that the bands are now “two different entities.”

In the lead up to the release of The 1975’s new song ‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’, the frontman wrote of Drive Like I Do’s track ‘Scary Monsters’.

“Pop fact: Tarek Musa (genius of band Spring King) produced the song Scary Monsters by Drive like I Do. We went to high school together @BBCR1 loooove them @philytaggart,” he wrote.

Musa was quick to respond, writing: “Thanks so much Matty and the new tune sounds great. I miss the good old days when it was the Musa House Band and Drive Like I Do against the world <3” See those tweets below plus Drive Like I Do’s track ‘Scary Monsters’.

Earlier today, The 1975 released ‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’, which NME described as “playing with pop tropes from the late ‘90s to now: the filtered disco of ‘French touch’ (think: Stardust, ‘Music Sounds Better With You’), the persistent key-bashing of piano house, the robotic vocal shifts of Cher’s ‘Believe’, the bouncy, the toytown feel of PC Music, the happy repetition of Europop (the office thinks it sounds like Ann Lee’s ‘Two Times’ – coincidence?) and the unfurling electronic flourishes of tropical house.”

Earlier this week, the band shared a music video for recent single ‘Love It If We Made It’.

Bandmembers Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel perform the song with their colourful silhouettes on display as song lyrics hover above.

‘Love It If We Made It’ is the second release from the band’s forthcoming record ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, although ‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’ has been described as the second ‘official single’ from the album.
