See Carrie Underwood Sing ‘Ghosts on the Stereo’ on ‘Kimmel’ – Rolling Stone

Carrie Underwood performed a trio of songs from her latest album Cry Pretty on Jimmy Kimmel Live, including the powerhouse title track and the classic country-referencing “Ghosts on the Stereo.”

The performance, taped last month, led with Underwood’s performances of two recent singles, “Cry Pretty” and “Love Wins,” her latest to be sent to country radio. Additionally, she performed the album track “Ghosts on the Stereo,” a slow-burning number penned by Andrew Dorff, Hillary Lindsey and Tom Douglas that talks up the restorative power of playing country’s departed heroes.

“The records are spinnin’ and the speakers are smokin’, There ain’t no last call, I’m havin’ a ball with Hank, Haggard and Jones,” Underwood sings, imagining a solitary party with her favorite records and a little Jack in her Coke. On Kimmel’s outdoor stage, Underwood shows off her vocal range, reaching down into a lower register for the verses and getting cheers from the crowd when she rockets up into the stratosphere on each chorus.

Released on September 14th, Cry Pretty debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200, making Underwood’s fourth all-genre chart-topper. On November 14th, she’ll reunite with Brad Paisley to co-host the annual CMA Awards for the 11th straight year. Next spring, she’ll launch her headlining Cry Pretty Tour 360 in Greensboro, North Carolina, supported by Maddie & Tae and Runaway June.
