The rapper made a 10-minute speech in front of reporters during the meeting
West had been tipped by some early reports to be present at the signing of the Music Modernization Act into law, which Trump conducted earlier today (October 11). However, West was a no-show at the ceremony – which was instead attended by such artists as Kid Rock, Beach Boys’ Mike Love, and the Recording Academy President Neil Portnow.
West later met Trump in the Oval Office of The White House, with discussion between the rapper, the President and the former NFL player Jim Brown during a working lunch set to focus on such topics as urban revitalisation, new workforce training programs, and more.
Members of the press were invited into The Oval Office prior to the lunch, where West reportedly gave a 10-minute-long statement. See footage of it below.
After he finished speaking, Trump remarked: “That was quite something.” West replied: “It was from the soul. I just channelled it.”
This is a developing story and it will continue to be updated.
Elsewhere, a poem written about Kanye West by the late Leonard Cohen prior to his death has emerged this month in a new posthumous collection.
