The homecoming kings will play a massive gig at Stockport County FC Edgely Park with some huge special guests…
Blossoms have announced details of the biggest UK headline show of their career so far, with a huge coming gig at Stockport County FC Edgely Park. See ticket details and our interview with Tom Ogden below.
Taking place on Saturday June 22, the band will be joined by The Coral, Cabbage, The Blinders and Fuzzy Sun.
“It means so much to us,” Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden told NME. “It’s a stadium show in the middle of our hometown and no one has ever done a gig there before. There are rows and rows of terraced houses around the ground and to be there means the world.
“It will be a real moment and definitely the biggest and best thing we’ve ever done. Oasis had Maine Road, Arctic Monkeys did Don Valley in Sheffield. You want that all day event where you go down in the afternoon, the sun’s blazing and you’ve got five bands on for a mini festival. That’s the vibe we wanted to create in the middle of Stockport. That’s never happened before.”
As well as offering a momentous evening with some very special guests, the band are also hoping to have some more new material out by the time the gig rolls around – despite having only released acclaimed second album ‘Cool Like You‘ back in April.
“I’ve been writing new stuff as well, which will be make up our third album when the time is right,” Ogden told NME. “We had a bit of time off in September so we just got our heads down. The songs are sounding really good. We’re just not stopping really. We’re in a weird transitional place at the moment because we’re still touring the second album and it’s still sounding really fresh.”
And what’s the new stuff sounding like?
“It’s hard to say really. It’s early days so I don’t want to say too much, but there are more guitars on it. On the second album we went down more of a synth route. This time I went back to writing on the guitar and songs just started falling out of me.
I’ll always write about myself as all songwriters do, but I’ve been trying to force myself into corners that I wouldn’t normally go into through story-telling.”
What else are you going to pull out of the bag to make this more than just a gig?
Tom: “We’d love to get a few friends on to do a few tunes. You know, all of the things you’d expect from a show like that. When we did Castlefield Bowl we had a little string section with us. I’d love to do something like that again. Hopefully we’ll have some new music out too. It’s just going to be a great day out and something to remember forever.”
Will there be pyro and all the usual stadium tricks?
“I’m not really a fan of pyro. Fireworks are alright, aren’t they? We’ll have a few Catherine wheels next to the stage. Nothing too flash. Keep it nice and real.”
What does it mean to have The Coral supporting you?
“It still feels surreal. James Skelly has been great to us and they’re just amazing. It’s real and it’s happening. This will be one of them where we look back in years to come and go, ‘Fucking hell, all of them bands played together in Stockport.’.”
