Kevin Hart to star in ‘Monopoly’ movie

He’s on the board….

Kevin Hart will reportedly take the lead in a forthcoming movie based on the iconic board game Monopoly.

According to Deadline, the US star will head up the cast in a big screen adaptation that is finally going ahead after spending years in development hell. He’ll be joined by director Tim Story, who previously worked with Hart on the action comedy Ride Along and Night School.

Although it’s known that the project will be live-action, no other details have been released on the film.

Monopoly makers Hasbro have been attempting to get a movie in development for at least 10 years. One previous iteration of the project saw Ridley Scott as a producer, while another in 2015 reportedly focused on a young man’s journey to becoming a property tycoon as per the format of the original game.

For Hart, it marks his first project after a controversial few months.

The American comedian stood down as host of the Oscars in December 2018, after a series of homophobic tweets surfaced online.

Despite Ellen DeGeneres arguing that he should be re-instated, Hart later insisted that he wouldn’t return to the gig.

“I’m over that, I’m over the moment, and I’m about today, so if it’s accepted, great, if it’s not, it’s nothing I can control. Some things are left out of your hands, so I’m done with it. I’m over it,” he explained.
