Sean Bean talks about the “comedy” of his final ‘Game of Thrones’ scenes

Apparently, his final scene didn’t exactly go to plan…

Sean Bean has spoken about the “comedy” he remembers when filming his final scenes on the Game of Thrones set.

Surprisingly, he revealed that most of the comedy occurred during his now famous Season 1 death scene thanks to things not exactly going to plan on set.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Bean recalled the scene in Season 1 where his character, Ned Stark, meets his violent demise. Instead of focusing on the sadness of the scene, Bean revealed that it was a much more comical affair on set.

He said: “We were in Malta; it was very hot. It was very colourful. Everyone was there, and with things like that there’s a sort of gallows humour to it.

“It’s awful what’s happening, and you start giggling and laughing. When the head fell off, there were mistakes. It didn’t quite work out sometimes. It was quite comic. So it breaks the ice a bit.”

Speaking about the speed at which his character met his demise in the show, Bean went on to say it was “wonderful” thanks to how much it surprised and gripped fans of the show.

“The death, that was wonderful because it was so unexpected. I thought it was amazing how they shot it.”

Meanwhile, last year Bean spoke out about the prospect of him reviving the role of Ned Stark for a Game of Thrones prequel as he refused to rule anything out.

“I don’t know how we can,” he told the Hollywood Reporter when asked about a potential prequel. “I don’t know how anyone can be, since they’re going backwards, I’d be younger. Now, we all look a little bit older.”

“I’m always a bit reluctant to go back to shows under a different format or guise,” he continued.

“But you never know with something like this, it just depends on the time frames. I think if the quality was maintained. You know, the kind of thought behind it, if it didn’t look as though it was an add-on just to capitalise on earlier success.”

Game of Thrones returns for its final season in April.
